This is an old photograph. I'm not trying to start anything by posting this, I just have some thoughts. There had been some previous controversy about this when it came out. ( no pun intended) Of course it had to do with Wayne and Birdman's sexuality because to our eyes all you see is grown men kissing which signals GAY in flashing lights. However, if you've ever read an interview of Wayne then you'd know that he thinks of Birdman as his father. So, is it ok for a son to kiss his father on the lips? Or is that gay too? Or are we in the blk community too hung up on what everyone is thinking of us that any type of affection between two men is suspect? On Marta yesterday I saw a man kiss his young son and I thought it was the most precious thing I ever saw. Maybe if there was more affection between fathers and sons in our community...nevermind. Anyways, I just wanted to know your thoughts.
Today's Track: " Show Me" John Legend
Personally, I find kissing your child on the lips odd. I've never done it to my kid.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they are suspect tho'. I mean if they where kissing for sexuality purposes they wouldn't be doing in in front of all their boys. Also, it would make more sense for them to be out the closet if they gonna be kissing in public.
Kissing by male family members is not negative in my culture – Latinos - but I can see how the perception can get a bit skewed. First, my male family members and I don’t kiss on the lips… it’s just not something we as family do. For that matter, none of my family members – moms, sis, brothers – kiss on the lips. Second, it’s difficult to confuse a warm, kind-hearted kiss on the cheek with a romantic display of affection. Unfortunately, the picture you’ve posted involves some odd posturing, where body language has as much to play in sending an odd message as what is being done. The younger man is placing his arm around the neck of the older man and his head position (slightly tilted) etc. tends to convey a romantic posture. Hey… I’m just sayin’. That said, it is what it is… if nothing is doin’, then who are we to give a hot damn. In the end, all things that happen in the shadows are brought to light. If theirs is an honest son/dad relationship, no amount of speculation will change that. Now if you pull out some pic with some old man slippin’ Pookie some tongue and try to tell us the man is like his granddad, I’m slappin’ you to the floor. LOL
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, I remember seeing an article on the front page of the Orlando Sentinel with a man and his young son who was on a swing set kissing on the lips, and it almost made me cry...
ReplyDeleteIt is unusual and I actually thought about it if I were to have kids, would I kiss them that way.
I've had friends whose parents are the same way with them, but they are culturally different than myself.
Most people would classify that as gay, because our culture is so quick to judge and label EVERYTHING, but that doesn't necessarily mean "GAY," so I think that this pic (which I'd never seen before) is making a HUGE statement that it is, in fact, OHHHKAY... gay or not, that's in my opinion, anyway - and you are right there should be more affection between father and son... great post ;)
Whats up with blogger? Ive been trying to respond to this post for 2 days.
ReplyDeleteHow and ever! Lil Wayne and Birdman's relationship has always made my right eybrow raise.
But on the subject of father to son affection, I think you have something with that one! Especially in the black community (in those instances where the father is even around) Men feel the need to be hypermasculine and feel showing love to their sons is a bitch move.
As far as kissing another man on the lips. I feel a little funny about that because I wasnt raised to be affectionate but that could be a problem. I think men need to show their sons much more love and teach them how to love so that it can reflect in thier interaction with their future mates.
And thats my 2 cents im leaving before I start preaching. This was a good post.
I WISH I HAD A DADDY!
ReplyDeleteEverything tend to be depended on the society, could be well appreciated in another society and could be frowned upon in another!
ReplyDeleteThe black community is sure gonna have something to say about that. but I dont see anything wrong with it except they are part of the lots that appear to be homophobic yet what goes down beyond the closet, who knows?
To me it looks like they are giving a shotgun.
ReplyDeleteThe hypersensitivity to the sexual orientation of alike genders is due to the various freedoms (e.g. Marraige) we, as a society have granted them. Due to this fact, public displays of homosexuality is, frankly speaking homo. This presupposes the orientation of Birdman and his "illegitimate" son, but the fact that his exhibition of trans-oedipus affetions shows that Birdman nor the other have problems with the Biblical references of Adam & Steve.
ReplyDeleteAnd futhurmore, as the blog apparently alludes to, the culture conflict of such actions only exist when the exhibitors are also within the same society. So, in conclusion Birdman and Lil' Wayne have displayed that they are coming out the closet and have reached a miraculous pink that has not been found in our spectrum of soical aptitude. In other words, it is what it is, think what you like, like what you think. IM OUT NIGGAS!!!
