Going To Chuuuuch

I've noticed alot of posts lately about religion. Ok maybe not alot, but atleast two. I personally have had horrible experiences with the church. Not exactly the church, but the people of the church (including my family) have made religion a very evil situation for me. Pretty ironic right? It took me many years of soul searching and conversing with others to find my own spirituality and eventually my own relationship with God. I now make light of the many experiences I've had in church. And so, I wrote this :

In The Lord’s House

Dressed up for Jesus
I sat in between
Sister Biscuit and Brother Three Legs
Watching the plasma screens
As a camera somewhere
Scanned the congregation
Like The Price is Right
Come on down to Jesus?
Reverend Bishop Sittin on Dubs
Gleamed over the pulpit
His teeth bright
His gold and diamond watch brighter
Spewing his judgments
Over the demons that Satan has in control
And as the choir's prized soloist
Brother Bootilicious
Channels Beyonce herself in hymn
Sister Biscuit and her Cabbage Patch Kid ankles
Scream praises
Sweat flinging from under her chins
Forcing me to turn
And I am caught up
In Brother Three Leg’s
Pillar of Glory
His hand in caressing motion
As he adlibs “Yes Lord”
Like a car accident
I can’t help but watch
His Passion for Christ
Yes he IS thankful
Overwhelmed
Seeking opportunity to exit
I rush pass them
And into Sister Wet Panties
“God Bless You”
Her tongue slithers out to say
Her eyes peering below my waist
“Yes God Bless”
Praying I make it to the parking lot.

I feel your poem. It's amazing when you discover your own spirituality. The trust and faith in him, conquest so many things. Stay Blessed!

  2. lmao...oh GG. church folk are by far the most interesting people on this planet. i find that most folk go to church for other reasons than worshipping and being blessed by what God has to offer. that's why i only go to church every once in a while. i don't like to get caught up in the drama, because i don't want that mess to come between my personal relationship with God. and that's what matters most...

p.s.: thanks for 'listening' to me last night.

  3. WOW, I LOVED THIS POEM!

You don't know how much it means to me that other people see eye to eye with me on my Church experience. I appreciate you coming by my blog and blessing me with your comments, it really helped.

    ONCE AGAIN, GREAT POEM!

  4. Man this is truly a HOT post for real. I think there are many of us that can identify with your experience in church. The interesting thing about death is we cant tell those that come after us what lies ahead, but it will be interesting to see where these so called holy rollers are....the pearly gates or the fiery pillars.

    HOLLA
